Adult ADHD & Autism Assessments

Understand How Your Brain Works

For many adults, seeking an assessment is about more than receiving a diagnosis — it can be an opportunity to look back at your experiences with greater understanding.

Have you spent years wondering why certain things seem harder for you than they seem to be for others? Maybe you struggle with organization, attention, sensory sensitivities, social interactions, emotional regulation, executive functioning, or managing everyday demands. Perhaps you've developed strategies to compensate so well that others don't recognize how much effort things require.

At Courageous Counseling, we provide Adult ADHD and Autism Assessments designed to help adults better understand their experiences and identify whether ADHD, Autism, or co-occurring ADHD and Autism may be contributing to their challenges.

ADHD and Autism Look Different in Adults

Many adults have spent years developing coping strategies, masking difficulties, adapting to expectations, or learning ways to compensate for areas that require significant effort. As a result, traditional approaches to identifying neurodevelopmental differences may not always capture the full picture.

An adult-centered assessment considers more than a checklist of symptoms. We look at your developmental history, current experiences, strengths, challenges, coping strategies, and the ways you have learned to navigate the world.

The Assessment Process

What to Expect

1

Initial Consultation

We begin by learning what brought you to assessment and what questions you hope to answer. This is an opportunity to discuss your concerns, goals, history, and whether a comprehensive assessment is an appropriate next step.

2

Clinical Interview & History

We gather information about your developmental history, current functioning, strengths, challenges, relationships, education, and work experiences. The Cherry AADI is incorporated to provide a structured, adult-focused exploration of ADHD and Autism characteristics. Additional clinical measures may be used when appropriate.

3

Clinical Review & Diagnostic Formulation

Your information is reviewed as a whole instead of relying on a single score or questionnaire. The goal is to determine whether the available clinical information supports ADHD, Autism, both, or another explanation for the experiences being evaluated.

4

Comprehensive Feedback & Report

We review the findings with you and discuss what they mean in the context of your life. When appropriate, your written report may include diagnostic conclusions, clinical findings, and individualized recommendations or accommodations. You'll have the opportunity to ask questions, process the results, and discuss next steps.
